Hands
To Help Seniors just had its first annual gala event at Bernardus Lodge and we
were happy to see the great turn-out for this worthwhile non-profit which helps
seniors in financial need remain independent in their own homes. It's extremely challenging in this economic
environment to raise money for charities.
I was happy to read that the wealthy are
getting more bullish about the economy and more willing to open up their
checkbooks. According to a survey for
the Center on Philantropy at Indiana University, 24% of high-net-worth
individuals said they planned to give more to charities in the next three to
five years, while 52% said they would give about as much as they do now. Only 9% said they would give less during that
time period. The survey queried people
with a household net worth of more than $1 million (excluding the value of
their home) and/or had an annual income of more than $200,000. The most compelling causes were education
(60%), health care (45%) and poverty (34%).
The researchers conducting the survey felt the positive results were the
result of a better feeling about the potential for the stock market. Let's hope this pans out.
