Monterey, CA Tribute To Those Lost In 9/11 Attacks Results In Millions Of Charitable Donations

by Richard Kuehn on 01/11/13

View From A Non-Profit Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Gonzalez, Greenfield, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, Seaside And Soledad California It was heart warming to read that Cantor Fitzgerald has donated $10 million to the families in 19 schools which were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.  Each of them are receiving a debit card for $1,000 to do whatever they wish.  Many areas of the country are still struggling to repair themselves after damage from this brutal storm.  Cantor Fitzgerald suffered its own devastation in the 911 attacks.  With their offices on floors 101 and 105 of One World Trade Center, the company suffered from 658 employees dying when terrorists struck the tower, a full two-thirds of its work force.  The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fun was started to help the families of employees lost on September 11, 2001 but has since expanded its scope to help charities around the world.  Each year on September 11, the company donates the day's revenue to charity and employees donate their pay.  This generous effort by employer and employees raised a whopping $12 million last September.  "We wanted to have a way that we could memorialize those that we lost in a way that was positive and to do good things," said Edie Lutnick whose husband Gary was killed in the terrorist attack.  How great that so much good is being done in the memory of those we lost.
