I
was glad to read that the Monterey Bay Aquarium is working with local
libraries to offer free passes to low-income residents of Monterey County. Called "Shelf to Shore" passes which
allows a family of up to six people free admission, they can be checked out
from local libraries if you are currently receiving some type of social
services help. The passes are now
available at Monterey Free Library Branches, Salinas City Library Branches and
Watsonville Public Library Branches. Our
Platinum Sponsors, Alliance Home Health and Family inHome Caregiving, both see
clients every day which are struggling to get by. Many don't get out of the house much and
don't have a lot of money for doing activities during the day. For years, Family inHome Caregivers has had
passes available to check out so that caregivers can take their clients to the
aquarium and get some social stimulation.
We applaud the libraries and the aquarium for implementing this
program. For someone who is homebound or
suffering from Alzheimer's disease, something like this can make all of the
difference in the world.
