The lack of affordable
housing on the Monterey Peninsula has once again made front page news. County officials are now debating whether or
not to require the Pebble Beach Company to build affordable housing as part of
their expansion proposal. If so, the
question would be how much would be required to be built on some of the most
valuable land in the country. Last week,
an environmental impact report was released that included a proposal including
affordable housing units, but just 18 of them.
Public comments are now being heard on a plan to build 90 new
single-family homes, a new 100-room hotel across from Spyglass Hill Golf Course
and adding 100 new rooms at the Inn at Spanish Bay and the Lodge at Pebble
Beach. It will be interesting to see how
this plays out. The county may negotiate
to allow the company to build the units, but on less valuable land.

About Richard Kuehn
& Hands to Help Seniors:
After more than a decade
of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family
member, it became clear to me that there are many seniors that can't afford to
pay for a private duty caregiver, not to mention medical expenses, food and
property taxes on their home. I decided to form a non-profit to help
seniors with any service they might need to get by, should they be unable to
afford this themselves. From putting on a new roof to providing a hot
meal, Hands to Help Seniors is there to help. Please visit my blog where
I talk about important senior issues at:
