There is a heartbreaking
story in the latest issue of AARP
Magazine about a woman who couldn't afford her bills for chemotherapy and
radiation treatments for breast cancer.
But she found hope. Her daughter
found the web site Indiegogo
which allowed her to set up a fundraising account. With a goal set at $10,000, she has already
raised $2,600. Although I haven't
checked these out myself, AARP mentioned other sites like giveforward, gofundme
and youcaring as other locations where people have set up successful
fundraising accounts. Some sites might
take a fee of funds raised, but still, what a great avenue for
fundraising. We have gotten numerous
calls from people who can't afford their medical bills and are requesting
financial assistance. Some have
insurance but often the co-pay alone is just too high, particularly with newer
drugs. Unfortunately, these are often
people who have terminal diseases. Dealing
with your own death and not being able to afford the medicine which might cure
you must be unbearable.
