Neighbors who live in
close vicinity to the location where the Pebble Beach Company was going to
build affordable housing units appear to have won the battle of getting the
project cancelled. The Pacific Grove
City Council has unanimously voted to take the
side of residents in the Del Monte Park area and oppose the new project. "We are concerned that the project will
have a harmful impact upon a significant number of our citizens," council
members Ken Cuneo and Dan Miller wrote to the Pebble Beach Company. The letter is also being sent to the
Monterey County Board of Supervisors and the county planning commission. The units were going to be built as part of
the last development in the Del Monte Forest, which includes a new resort and
spa. However, given all of the uproar by
Pebble Beach residents, the 24-unit apartment complex will likely be built
somewhere else in Monterey County.
