Happy
Thanksgiving everyone! Many of us have
much to be thankful for, but are still struggling financially after the
recession and the round of federal and state budget cuts which have been
devastating to low-income residents, and in particular seniors. I was happy to read that there are a number
of events going on in Monterey County to help those in need get a hot meal. Volunteers are now preparing food at the
Monterey County Fairgrounds. Anyone can
feel free to stop by between noon and 3:00 p.m. today. There are also free holiday meals available
at Dorothy's Place in Salinas, the North County Recreation Center in
Castroville as well as the Salvation Army in Salinas and American Legion Post
31 in Salinas. It's heartwarming to see
so many volunteers get out today to help those in need. Dorothy's Place is also providing shelter for
needy homeless seniors and others that need a helping hand. If you are fortunate to have a hot meal on
the table and can also afford to help others, please click on the donate button
above or go to the Monterey County Gives web site, click on
the Donate Now tab and choose Hands To Help Seniors. They have chosen a number of charities which
will receive matching funds, and we are proud to say we not only were chosen,
we are in second place in fundraising this year. Your donation can go much further by visiting
their web site.
