Some
of the volunteers at the
Monterey County Fairgrounds will be celebrating more than two decades of serving up
free Christmas dinners tomorrow. The
event will be held from noon until 3:00 p.m. in The Monterey Room. Many of the volunteers at the 27th
annual Community Holiday Dinner are single people who don't want to be alone at
Christmas and like giving back to the community. The event draws about 2,000 people each
year. "It's a wonderful experience. I love to see everybody's face, they really
light up, especially the people on the committee when they see how much
everyone is enjoying it," Rich Hughett, who has volunteered for 21 years
and is the head of the committee, told The Herald. If you are interested in lending a hand, please
give Linda Donofrio a call at 324-0715.
The group has about 120 volunteers, but can always use a few more
helping hands. In addition to serving
the general public, the Marina Police Department has volunteered to deliver 400
meals to homebound seniors. Now that's
the Christmas spirit. If you are in the
holiday giving mood, we are currently doing a fundraising campaign. I am proud that we were chosen by Monterey County
Weekly as one of the charities highlighted in their annual Monterey County
Gives program. If you can afford to
give, please donate via the below web site as there are matching funds
available via this great program. The
way it works is, there is $100,000 in matching funds and it will be divided
pro-rata amongst the participating organizations based on how much they
raise. So please help us stay in the top
fundraisers list by clicking here.
