Salinas, CA Cancer Treatment Using Your Own T-Cells

I have been writing quite a bit on my blog about the potential for “personalized medicine” where we change from being a one-size-fits-all prescription based society to one which looks at a person’s own DNA to see what might work best for him or her. There are a number of companies making significant inroads in this area and I was happy to read that a company started by Dr. Jack Kaganaugh called ZetaRX was purchased by Juno Therapeautics and had an extremely successful IP just before Christmas. The IP debuted at $24/share (a $4 billion market cap.) and shares have since soared to over $60 (with a range of $34.71 to $61.70, closing today at $42.49. The company does non-surgical, non-chemo and non-radiation treatment for cancer using T-Cell technology which gets a subset of T-cells isolated from a patient’s blood. These are then chemically altered and a receptor gene is added which allows the lab to grow cells, inject them in the patient, and they essentially destroy the cancer cells. This is a wonderful technological breakthrough and I hope it is rapidly improved to fight many other diseases.
