The county of Monterey is moving forward to prepare for new requirements of the Affordable Care Act, giving citizens a study prepared by Cal State University researchers under contract with the state health department which analyzed the county's health care safety net. Called the "Phase 1 Report: Preliminary Profile of Health Care Needs & Safety Net Providers that serve Residents of Monterey County" and it will be presented to the public at a series of five meetings scattered over the next week and a half at different locations across the county. The first of them will be on Monday with a 2-hour session starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Castroville library. Attendees will be able to ask questions and give comments at this session, as well as one next Tuesday at 6:00 at the Oldemeyer Center in Seaside, on Wednesday at the county Health Departments in Salinas, at Big Sur Grange Hall on January 21 and in King City at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on January 24. It's great to see such collaboration and an in depth study and I am sure that the Board of Supervisors (which will hear a report on how the county is prepping for the Affordable Care Act on Tuesday) as well as county residents will be interested to see what's being done and how much it will cost. Home Health Agencies like our Platinum sponsor Alliance Home Health will also be curious as to how many more people will be covered by insurance.
