Monterey, CA : Hands To Help Seniors Receives 501 (c) (3) Status : View From A Non-Profit Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gonzalez, Greenfield, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, Seaside And Soledad California Most people dread getting a letter from the Internal Revenue Service. However, I was elated to get one and find inside a letter that Hands to Help Seniors has officially gotten its 501 (c) (3) status. For those of you who aren't familiar with the non-profit world, forming one is not as easy as you might think. We've been shuffling paperwork back and forth to the I.R.S. for almost a year. Although you can still raise money while your 501 (c) (3) status is pending, many foundations and corporations won't consider sponsoring or donating until you have your "official" non-profit. We're now "official!" Thanks to all of you that have supported me on this journey. I am planning my first big fundraiser at the end of April, followed by another one in September. Here's how we plan on spending your money:
Client 1 has diabetes and has had to undergo three amputation surgeries. He is relatively young at 63, but unable to work. He has exhausted all of his financial resources and gone on Medi-Cal. Unfortunately, the State of California just can't afford to give him the care that he needs. He is seeking our help to provide him with funds to cover his “Share of Cost” for another upcoming eye surgery due to a new retinal infection that has set in, and other medical bills.
Potential Client 2 lives in Seaside with a friend that takes care of her ADLs. She fought valiantly to collect veteran's benefits which she deserved because her husband was in the military. Sadly, she lost the case. She was told that this was because she was employed as a civil servant. She has very little income and needs assistants with ADLs.
Potential Client 3 lives in Salinas and is requesting help with getting her dentures replaced. This potential client was sent to us via Senior Legal Services. She lives alone and has been trying to have her dentures replaced for over a month due to a hospital losing them and not agreeing to replace them. She is losing weight as she has a hard time eating without her dentures.
Potential Client 4 lives in Salinas with his wife. They read the article in the Monterey Herald and called to ask if they could receive assistance with medications as both he and his wife have numerous health care problems and cannot afford all the medications that they are need to take to help with their medical issues.
Please help us help these people in need. As always, your donations are tax deductable and support a number of great causes.
