Monterey, CA Affordable Housing Developments For Seniors At Ford Ord Site Likely To Be Slow

The road behind it (General Jim Moore Boulevard), for instance, looks like an interstate freeway. But most of the land is barren. The collapse of the economy has had a devastating impact on many development plans, including much needed low-income housing for seniors. Monterey county is one of the most expensive places for a senior to retire, and finding housing is one of the biggest challenges. Although some projects have been green lighted for the base, it's sadly behind what many had hoped for when the Ford Ord Base Reuse Plan was completed in 1997. A revised report will be completed by EMC Planning Group and Economic Planning Systems by January 1, 2013. However, a preliminary report shows that it's now forecast that the build-out won't be completed for another 40 years. Even if Fort Ord captured all of the economic growth of the next two decades, it would still be behind the forecasted build out envisioned in the 1997 report. The report showed that the Salinas Valley is growing dramatically while the Monterey Peninsula population is shrinking. The report paints a bleak outlook for redevelopment on the old Fort Ord, a sad situation for seniors waiting for affordable housing developments to be developed.
About Richard Kuehn & Hands to Help Seniors:
After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member, it became clear to me that there are many seniors that can't afford to pay for a private duty caregiver, not to mention medical expenses, food and property taxes on their home. I decided to form a non-profit to help seniors with any service they might need to get by, should they be unable to afford this themselves. From putting on a new roof to providing a hot meal, Hands to Help Seniors is there to help. Please visit my blog where I talk about important senior issues at:
