Affordable Housing Coming To Downtown Monterey

by Richard Kuehn on 09/24/16

It’s only 19 units, but at last some affordable housing will be built in downtown Monterey for seniors.  The Van Buren Senior Housing Project will occupy six parcels in the 600 block of Van Buren Street just south of Madison Street.  Developed by the non-profit Mid-Peninsula Housing, the one-bedroom units will be designated as Section 8 federally-funded housing.  Thanks to the City of Monterey who gave the non-profit developer a long-term ground lease for just $1 per year.
